Honestly, no description here can accurately capture how painfully long the struggle was to create this print start to finish... but I'm so proud to finally finish it, and I think it turned out really cool!! The second picture shows all the tiny halftone dots from four CMYK layers that create the depth of a full-spectrum image. The image is from @stillherestilllife's community-based still life inspirations on instagram.
How it was made:
- 4 layer halftone screenprint design! Each layer is handprinted.
- 11 total times of prepping my screen, messing up while burning the negative design onto the screen, powerwashing it off, and starting over
- Separated a photo into CMYK channels on photoshop and halftoned each layer
- Printed each CMYK layer in black and white onto printer paper
- Soaked the paper with baby oil to make it translucent
- Emulsified a screen in the darkroom
- Burned the design into the screen using a UV curing chamber
- Washed out the design with a powerwasher
- Mixed CMYK inks and hand-screenprinted each layer onto arnhem paper
- Trim paper to size to get rid of registration marks
- Cry tears of joy!
